Snæfellsnes Peninsula | 2 Day Private Tour

Discover Iceland offers overnight customized private tours. You only need to contact us for a price quote. Let us know what you have in mind concerning the type of accommodations, how many people you are, and what you would like to see or do, mainly.

We visit the stunning and isolated landscapes of the National Park in Snæfellsnes in a luxury car, with some optional easy lava tube caving, and maybe the northern lights (in winter). Along the way we explore waterfalls, volcanoes, a glacier, fjords, dramatic cliffs, black sand beaches, the ship wreck of 1948, and so much more. The wonders of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula are so many, that 2 days is really just the minimum time!

We tailor this tour according to your wishes.

* Please remember that good hiking shoes will help you enjoy the short hikes and caving experience. Bring waterproof warm clothing (jeans are not good when it’s cold and wet).

National Park and Lava Caves

We pick you up at your hotel in Reykjavík and take the super jeep directly to the beauties of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, which we will explore at length. We’ll see the small black church at Búðir with its magnificent backdrop, the volcano and glacier Snæfellsjökull.

We’ll visit the off-road destination of Cave Sönghellir, the fishing village of Arnarstapi with its weird basalt rock formations, and Hellnar. Once in the National Park, we explore Cave Vatnshellir (optional) a lava tube cave that’s very easy to explore, with an expert guide. This is suitable for all, and the tour takes only 45 min. Then we enjoy the amazing beach of Djúpalónssandur, where we find the remains of shipwrecks all over the beach.

Another of our off-road destinations today will be the dramatic cliffs Svörtuloft and its lighthouse. We’ll spend the night in Grundarfjörður, or near.

Fjords and Highland Pass

We’ll see very different landscapes today. We might begin exploring the famous Kirkjufell and its scenic waterfall. On our way along the north coast of the peninsula we’ll see two fjords, and then the cozy fishing town of Stykkishólmur. The town is known for its renovated period houses and stunning views, and because the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” was recorded here, among other locations in Iceland.

We’re going to show you another beautiful and not often visited off-road location, the Highland Pass of Heydalur, with beautiful scenery and lakes. Then we travel inland to see the cascades of Hraunfossar. You don’t see any river above the falls, because the water comes through the lava rock. If it’s possible, then we drive Hvalfjörður Fjord before we reach the capital, hoping that you’ve enjoyed the tour.

The BEST and only way to really see Iceland

During our cruise to Iceland my husband and I decided to book a private tour with a local company rather than relying on the cruise line during our time in Reykjavik. After a lot of researching we decided to book with Discover Iceland, which turned out to be a brilliant decision….

The ONLY way to see Iceland

I cannot say enough good things about Discover Iceland. The office was very responsive and informative while booking tours and the guides were all extremely nice, professional, and fearless when it came to the snow-covered roads in blizzard-like conditions. We had the fearless Orri and his amazing “super-jeep” Joy for two tours (Golden Circle with snowmobiles and Southern Coast) …
